Story aired on WBUR March 10, 2005:
It's been just over a year since Haitian President Jean- Bertrand Aristide went into exile. The man who led a revolt against a dictator, was himself ousted and called a dictator.

Aristide claims the United States kidnapped him, something U.S. officials have long denied. Congresswoman Barbara Lee of California has called for an investigation into the U.S. role in Aristide's fall from power. And Congresswoman Maxine Waters and Aristide's lawyer traveled to Haiti this week to try and ascertain the health of several of his imprisoned followers.

Audio file also includes a report on how Haiti is faring, with guests:

  • Ira Kurzban, Aristide's lawyer

  • Kathie Klarreich, author of a forthcoming memoir on "Haiti, 'Madame Dread,'" lived in and has covered Haiti for nearly 20 years.
